Ideas from the CRISPR Frontier: Building Consensus on Human Genome Editing
Edward Perello is a molecular biologist who is passionate about synthetic biology and its impact on the world. Edward holds a BSc in Bioveterinary Science from London’s Royal Veterinary College and a MPhil in Bioscience Enterprise from the University of Cambridge. He is a 2015 SynBio LEAP fellow and has formerly worked with the European Union on science policy and VERTIC on arms control. He is co-founder and CBO of Desktop Genetics, a UK-based bioinformatics company building an AI for CRISPR genome editing. Using the CRISPR technique, which was originally discovered as part of the CRISPR/Cas9 defense system in prokaryotic cells, and the recently launched Deskgen Platform, he aims to revolutionize the way genetic research is conducted. Edward looks forward to building a world where biology is used as widely as technology, treating what are now considered terminal illnesses.
